Ladies and Gentlemen of the Media.We welcome you all and thank you for responding to our  invitation at such a short notice. We are grateful for the usual cooperation. We the members of the Kusaug Traditional Council decided to use this platform to send across to the general public our concern and displeasure on the attack on commuters on the Bawku-Pulimakom road in the Pusiga area on Thursday, 20th September, 2023 that claimed the lives of 6 women and 3 men, with others injured.

We wish to express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We disassociate ourselves from these barbaric and lawless acts,     knowing that our culture abhors the killing of women, no matter the circumstance. These    gruesome acts must be stopped by those involved. Attacks on travelers on the highway are not acceptable. In recent times there have been similar attacks on vehicles as follows;

(a). The Bolga-Tamale highway, particularly between Wulugu and Nasia, especially at Walewale

(b). The Bolgatanga-Bawku road

(c). The Bawku-Pulimakom road, leading to Cinkanse

The media, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Traditional Council hereby sends a serious warning to those who are involved to desist on these barbaric acts.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Tradition Council wish to applaud the Security agencies for their  timely intervention to contain the situation from escalating, We acknowledge the frantic efforts made by the security agencies in ensuring peace return to the area. It is therefore our hope and prayer that, the security should not feel frustrated due to the current events but to remain       resolute and focused towards the achievement of total peace for the area. We, however, call on Government to track down these attackers, both in the Bawku and Walewale areas. Though we appreciate the government efforts, particularly the Security agencies in dealing with the         situation so far, we think that there is the need to do more since these attacks could impede businesses, both internationally and locally.

Members of  the Media, Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the Kusaug Tradional Council, the Zug-Ran, Bawku Naba, Asigri, Abugrago Azoka II wish to call on all residents in Bawku and the entire Kusaug to remain calm whilst the Security authorities deal with the matter.

We thank you all for coming.
