Binduri: Once-Rejected DCE Nominee Finally Confirmed

Binduri DCE Mr Martin Ariku Akurugu.

Mr. Martin Ariku Akudugu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the Binduri District Assembly in the Upper East Region, faced a significant setback in his first confirmation process on April 23, 2025. During the vote, 17 assembly members participated, with 8 voting in favour (representing 47%) and 9 voting against him (accounting for 52.9%). This outcome marked a historic rejection, as it was the first time a DCE nominee in the Upper East Region experienced such a technical knockout during the nomination process.

The situation escalated following the rejection, leading to the assault of the presiding member and other assembly members, resulting in the hospitalization of Mr. Samuel Azure, the presiding member.

However, after being re-nominated on May 28, 2025, Mr. Akudugu was overwhelmingly confirmed by 100% of the 17 assembly members.

Speaking to the media in Binduri, Mr. Akudugu expressed his gratitude to the President of Ghana for his re-nomination and thanked the assembly members for their unanimous support. He emphasized his commitment to working in the best interest of the district and promised an open-door administration that would harness the diverse talents of all assembly members and stakeholders to unlock the vast potential of the Binduri district for development.

“I am extremely grateful to all of you for entrusting me with this lead role in the reset agenda of Ghana. Honourable members, the stage is set to elevate the Binduri District Assembly. I assure you of my readiness to collaborate with everyone for the betterment of our district. My administration will be open and inclusive, enhancing the talents of all honourable members and tapping into our district’s potential for growth,” he stated.

Mr. Akudugu urged assembly members, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to work together to bring peace to the traditional area, emphasizing that economic and social development thrives in a secure environment. He committed to collaborating with all parties to restore a strong economy that will create jobs for the youth, foster business growth, and uphold good governance.
