The Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Lawyer Charles Bawa Dua, has successfully re-roofed nine schools and the Waliga CHPS health facility following significant storm damage in April 2025.

Speaking exclusively to the media after touring the repaired schools, he recalled the distressing situation three months prior when a rainstorm ripped off roofs from approximately 15 schools, severely impacting educational delivery in the constituency. Many students were forced to sit under trees or in churches, while others had no suitable place to learn.

Determined to address the crisis, Lawyer Dua took it upon himself to find solutions, given that the district assembly lacked the necessary resources for repairs. He reached out to various institutions and individuals, securing assistance to fund the repairs. He expressed gratitude to those who contributed, enabling the restoration of the following schools: Leenbiisi-Moshidabooro Primary, Waliga CHPS, Tankoo Primary, Tankoo JHS, Dua Yikene Primary, Awaah Primary School, Rev. Father Lebel Primary School, Zorkor SHS, Awaah JHS, and Beo Boko Primary.

While he has completed repairs on several facilities, many schools remain unfinished due to additional storm damage and long-standing issues from previous years. He appealed to well-meaning Ghanaians for support to help reroof the remaining affected schools, noting that six or seven still require attention.

In addition to the schools, numerous private homes were also damaged. Lawyer Dua is in discussions with NADMO to seek assistance for those residents who suffered property losses due to the storm.

The storm also disrupted electricity in the area for about a month, as many utility poles were damaged. He worked to secure replacement poles to restore electricity to affected communities and will continue to seek further help.
