
President John Dramani Mahama has assured the paramount chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, that restoring peace in Bawku will be his top priority. He announced that key ministerial appointments—including the Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior, National Security Advisor, National Security Coordinator, Bureau of National Investigation Director, and Army officials—will be made this week to address the security situation in Bawku.
During his visit, President Mahama emphasized, “I want to assure you that we’re putting in place the various appointments so that we can have ministers and other officials who are responsible for the security to take charge. And so within this week, we will do the appointments of the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Interior, the National Security Advisor, the National Security Coordinator, the BNI Director, the Army, and when these appointments are made, I’m going to charge them to make Bawku one of the number one priorities that they obtained at the meeting.”
He appealed to the Zuguraan and the people of the Kusaug Traditional Area to exercise patience and restraint, stating, “I can assure you have trust in myself and this administration that by the grace of God, peace is going to come back, permanent peace is going to come back.”

President Mahama lamented the current security situation, saying, “We as Ghanaians cannot live in a country where our people don’t feel safe. Our people must feel safe to travel wherever they want and wherever they are, and not have people shooting at them.” He reassured the community that his administration is committed to addressing these issues to ensure safety and progress in the traditional areas.
Additionally, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the people of Bawku for their overwhelming support during the recent 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. He noted that his visit marks his first assignment outside of Accra since being sworn in at Black Star Square. He concluded by reaffirming his government’s dedication to restoring peace in Bawku.
