The Management of the Upper East Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has urged health workers across the region to wear crash helmets whenever they ride motorbikes.

The call was made during the Directorate’s routine Monday meeting of unit heads, which focused on strategies to improve healthcare delivery in the region.Dr Braimah Baba Abubakari, the Regional Director of Health Services, emphasized the importance of adhering to basic road safety measures, including the consistent use of crash helmets and seat belts.
Despite a prominently displayed notice at the entrance of the Directorate that reads, “Wear Your Crash Helmet or Seatbelt to Prevent Fatal Injuries. No Crash Helmet, No Entry,” some health workers and visitors continue to disregard the directive.
Dr Abubakari stressed that health professionals must prioritize their own safety and serve as role models for the public.“Because we are health workers, people tend to follow our example.
Therefore, we must be disciplined and practice the safety measures we advocate,” he said.He further encouraged all staff to comply with road safety regulations to help prevent avoidable injuries and fatalities.
