I will prioritise construction of the Pwalungu Multipurpose dam- Bawumia

The vice-president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday 7th, February 2024 addressed the nation on his vision for Ghana when elected as the president. Titled “Selfless leadership and bold solutions for the future”, he indicated that the next New Patriotic Party government will prioritise the construction of the Pwalungu Multipurpose dam.

The Pwalungu Multipurpose dam which brought serious criticism directed at the Nana Addo- Bawumia government as it failed to ensure the completion of dam.

President Nana Akuffo Addo cut sod for the construction of the Pwalungu Multipurpose dam in November 2019 with funding from Sinohydro and promised to complete the dam by Novembee 2023, but failed.

The vice-president and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party noted that under his tenure, he will want to attain food security through the innovation of agricultural methods with the application of irrigation to commercial large scale farming as well as the use of lime to reduce the acidity of the soil to enhance good yield.

“I want a Ghana where we attain food security through the application of technology and irrigation to commercial large scale farming. We will also promote the use of agricultural lime to reduce the acidity of our soils, enhance soil fertility and get more yield from the application of fertilizers. Ghana has an abundance of limestone to do this. I will prioritise the construction of the Pwalugu Dam by using private sector financing to crowd-in grant financing”
Speaking to some peasant farmers off records on the street of Bolgatanga indicated that the vice president comment indicated the dream of the Pwalungu Multipurpose dam is over and the NPP government has failed the people of Northern Ghana. Whiles some farmer are of the view that they are feet up with the government attitude towards the project.
