UE/R: We Are Fed By Benevolent People and Fulanis in Town But We Have Exhausted All the Food. We Need Food: Fulanis at Stadium

The Fulanis that are cuirrently being housed at the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium have appealed to benevolent individuals and philanthropic groups in the Upper East Region and Ghana at large to come to their aid with food as they have ran out of food stock.

The group that are female dominated explained that since their relocation from Naaga and Sirigu to their current temporal location, they have mostly survived by the benevolence of some indigenes and fulani tribes that are based in the region who have supplied them with bags of rice, maize, oil and some ingredients to feed.

” Truly, people who are God fearing and are empathetic to our plight have brought us food. They have brought us rice, maize and oil. These people include Dagombas and Frafras. We have food to eat but we are not at peace.”

The group also answered negative when they were asked if the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly have provided them with food since their relocation. ” As for the assembly, we have not seen anything like that. It is those at the station and some other persons who bring us food but as for the assembly, we are not aware of them providing us with food”

Speaking to Word News reporters who were at the stadium for first hand information about how the group are faring, the women and their male members disclosed that they have exhausted the food that was donated by benevolent persons and appealed to the public to come to their aid with food.

” People have brought us food and that is what we have been cooking to feed but the food got finished yesterday so this morning we have not eaten, we only took porridge. Look at our children, some of them are even vomiting. So we are appealing to the public to help us with food because the whole day we have not eaten”

The Fulanis were attacked and chased out of the Naaga and Sirigu forest after a young man from the Naaga community was attacked and killed by unknown armed robbers which the community suspect to be Fulanis. The Regional and District Security swiftly moved the Fulanis first to the Bolga Municipal Police station to ensure their security before eventually relocating them to the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium where tents have been erected to provide temporal shelter while efforts are made to resolve the issue.
