The Bolgatanga East District Assembly has presented 400 dual desks to the Bolgatanga East Ghana Education Service Directorate to be distributed to primary schools with acute furniture challenges in the district.
The DCE for Bolgatanga East District, Hon. David Amoah, presented the desk to the District GES Director, Mr. George Asirah at a shot ceremony at the forecourt of the district Assembly.
Hon. Amoah said the presentation of the furniture is part of efforts by the district to provide a conducive school environment for students to learn. ” We are presenting this desk to ensure that our students are comfortable and happy to learn.”
Hon. Amoah added that it is his priority to eliminate the unfortunate situation where students in the district lie on their stomach to have their studies.
” We used to have schools under trees but my target is to eliminate children lying on their bellies to learn in Bolgatanga East. That is my target. We are not stopping here. Just as we presented 900 dual desk and 300 round tables last year, this year too between the first and second quarter, we will present another set so that we will have all levels of education having furniture.”
The District Director of Education, Mr. George Asira said through the efforts of the Assembly, the directorate has been able to reduce the furniture deficit in the district by halve.
” The assembly has helped us to reduce the number of spaces that our children occupy. We have a total enrollment figure of 8,438. As we speak, that is including this presentation we have been able to fill up 4,357 sitting spaces. What constitute a deficit to us is 4,081. That means we have a little above halve in terms of our effort to reduce the numbers and to ensure that our people have places to sit”
The DCE disclosed that out of the 400 dual desk, 200 of them is from the support of GETFund while the other 200 metal desk is funded from the district at a cost of Gh155,802.
