Talensi: Winkogo Chief calls on DCE to demarcate Bolgatanga Senior High School land to prevent illegal leasing, encroachment, and sales

The Chief of Winkogo, a suburb of the Talensi District in Ghana’s Upper East Region, Naba Moses Aganzuah Akolgo, has called on the Talensi District Chief Executive (DCE),Mr. John Millim Naabwonya, to support the proper demarcation of Bolgatanga Senior High School’s land.Naba Moses Aganzuah Akolgo explained that the land was released by the community’s grandparents in the early years of the 1980s for the establishment of the school.

However, he said some people from Winkogo have been encroaching onto the school land, while others have been selling portions of it, despite the school’s ownership and purpose.

Speaking on behalf of the chief, Mr. Joseph Afaala-ani Aganzuah lamented that Naba Moses Aganzuah Akolgo has made several reports about the situation to the Talensi District Assembly, requesting that the school land be demarcated and the boundaries formally presented to the chief to help curb the situation.

He noted that the assembly has not responded adequately because some offices of the District Assembly and residents of Winkogo are allegedly victims people who reportedly bought lands from those selling parts of the school land.

He added that some individuals from Accra have also been pressuring the chief to release portions of the land for the development of hostel facilities, a move he believes would worsen the ongoing issue of land sales and encroachment.

Mr. Joseph Afaala-ani Aganzuah therefore appealed to the DCE and the Member of Parliament to speed up the process to prevent further damage to the school’s land.

He emphasized that the grandparents released the land, were compensated, and the land was intended for any school-related project. If the encroachers succeed in taking parts of the land, he warned that the school may lose access to it permanently.Meanwhile, during a response to the chief’s call, the Talensi District Chief Executive, Mr. John Millim Naabwonya, assured the chief and his elders that the Assembly will act.The DCE stated that on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, the Assembly’s Physical Planning Officer and his team, together with the Winkogo Assembly Member who also serves as the Presiding Member of the District Assembly, Mr. Edward Azuah Akolgo, will come to carry out the demarcation to resolve the encroachment issue.

He also instructed Mr. Edward Azuah Akolgo to ensure that the matter is handled peacefully, stressing that , as a presiding he should be available on the day to support the process to ensure the demarcations of the school land is successful.
