Bongo: I saw 4 women die on dirty hospital beds without bedsheets— woman bemoans

A survival accident victim  has been narrating her ordeal of a poor treatment cum dirty environment at the Bongo District Hospital when she went through admission at the hospital when she was envolved in a recent road traffic accident.

According to her, she was admitted on the 22nd of April, 2022 when a New Patriotic Party’s rally vehicle veered off the road and ran into several shops in the Bongo market causing various degrees of injuries, and destruction to several shops .

She told word news that she collapsed  and was rushed to the hospital with several others.

She painted a horrific picture of how patients were admittedd and kept on very dirty beds. beds without bedsheets , even four women died on different beds the hospital staff never cleaned those beds nor cover them “as I was there, four women died on four beds, they never changed the beds nor bedsheets they didn’t even take the bed out and some other women also came on admission and we’re kept on those same beds. they admitted new clients on the same bed without cleaning them and they also died on that same bed, when they  admit you they normally asked you to produce your own bedsheets or cloth to  over the bed. I do not understand why  that should be  happening in Bongo , is it to say that the Bongo hospital do not have bedsheets and why should women made to produce their own bedsheets or cover clothes as bedsheets.” She bemoaned.

Dr. Williams GuduMedical superintendent of the Bongo district hospital

Medical superintendent of the Bongo district hospital, Dr. Williams Gudu denied the allegations and  told word news that the hospital as at the time the incidence occurred were only focused in saving lives and not bedsheets,  though the hospital has experienced water shortage for sometime now because Ghana Water Company have not been able to supply water for some weeks now and that the  facility have enough bedsheets which every bed is entitled to two bedsheets. when asked why the hospital with a mechanised borehole could be experiencing water shortage, he indicated that the mechanized water was not enough for a big facility like the Bongo district hospital saying that the mechanized borehole serves as a supplement to the hospital.

“We have a little issue with water in Bongo of late because of the dry season, it appears the water table is a bit low , the supply of water is not as good as before , the hospital is not  having challenge with bedsheets, we have adequate quantities of bedsheets but as at Friday most of the hospital bedsheets were dirty and having a bit challenged in washing “ Dr Williams Gudu noted.

He however added that since Easter Friday the Bongo District Hospital has never gotten water supply, from the Ghana Water company which has conpounded the situation.

Dr Gudu noted that though the hospital  had a mechanized borehole but that is not enough to supply the entire hospital it is only there to supplement the facility “
