Akufo-Addo doesn’t discriminate – Interim Bongo DCE

The stand-in District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo, Peter Ayimbisa, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a leader who does not discriminate.

He made this remark when the Bongo District Assembly disbursed 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
“Some applied for the money to engage in income-generating activities and others applied for items.

Some are getting up to Gh¢2,000. Others are receiving deep freezers, sewing machines, donkey carts, etc. He is an inclusive president. Whether you are short or tall, able-bodied or disabled. That is why he takes the issues of Persons with Disabilities seriously,” the DCE said.

A sum of Gh¢107, 263 was disbursed to about 75 PWDs. Some of the beneficiaries received refrigerators, ice chests, donkeys and sewing machines whilst and others received at least Gh¢2,000. Over the last four years, the Bongo District Assembly has paid out about Gh¢886,000 from the 3% share of the District Assembly Common Fund to PWDs to empower and support them to establish and expand the businesses of their choice.

The caretaker DCE encouraged the beneficiaries to put the items and cash to good use. He expressed his excitement over activities of PWDs in the district and emphasised the commitment of the Akufo-Addo-led government to empowering PWDs.
The President of the Federation of Disability Organisation, Clement Mba, expressed gratitude to the government for increasing the PWDs’ share of the District Assembly Fund from 2% to 3%.

Mr Mba also appealed to the District Assembly to connect the newly constructed disability resource centre to the national grid and help provide it with water. He further entreated the assembly to construct a road to the facility for easy access.

Responding to the requests made by Mr Mba, the acting DCE promised to provide the facility with electricity, water and an access road as soon as possible.

Construction of the disability resource centre was started under the past National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government and was completed under the current administration. The edifice currently has no security personnel and cleaners.
