Mr. Daniel Dung Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Talensi constituency, has successfully filed his nomination forms to contest the Talensi seat in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
At 45 years old and a customs officer by profession, Mr. Mahama is confident in his chances for victory. He believes that as a grassroots candidate, he understands the political terrain of the Talensi constituency well.
He stated,
“I think our total voter population is almost 45,000 to 46,000, so if we are going to have a voter turnout of 39,000 to 40,000, Daniel Mahama and the NDC are going to hit 47,000 to 48,000 voters this time. The NPP are going to get 1% of the total votes cast, meaning we are hitting 99% of the voter population because we have a unique strategy.”
Mr. Mahama emphasized that the electorate is well-informed about the NDC’s flagship programs, which include a women’s bank, agricultural mechanization, free education for all entrants to universities in Ghana, and free education for persons with disabilities. He added that the second regime of former President John Dramani Mahama will address the challenges posed by the NPP’s double-track system.
“Our people know the NDC plans about the 24-hour economy,” he noted. “We are bringing in agricultural mechanization, women banking, and ensuring that first-year university students will have free education. Disabled individuals will also attend school for free. With this sort of information on the ground, people are actually preparing for change.”
In addition, Mr. Mahama outlined his plans for developing the constituency, particularly in agriculture and education. He intends to promote dry season farming and is committed to building the proposed technical college, BONABOTO. Furthermore, he aims to upgrade the district hospital and some Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facilities to enhance the health system in the constituency.
