Talensi: Connect our community to the national grid, or we pelt you with stones— Nuug youth warn politicians

The youth of Nuug, in the Talensi constituency of Ghana’s Upper East Region, have issued a stark warning to politicians: connect their community to the national electricity grid or face hostility during campaign visits.

Mr Ceisu Daam ,a  leading member of the Nuug community

Ceisu Daam, a leader among the youth, expressed their frustration over years of neglect and deception by politicians. He stated that the community has been waiting for over nine years since electricity poles and a transformer were installed, but no progress has been made.

Some electricity poles erected without no cables.

“I’m speaking on behalf of all the youth .What’s happening in our community is very pathetic. Our electricity situation is very pathetic, every year they(politicians)keep deceiving us ,they brought electricity poles and deceive that they will bring us electricity, it’s nine years today nothing had happened, it’s means they are deceiving us .
This year, we, the youth of Nuug, have informed our chief and our assembly member and have decided that we have been voting for them for nothing, so if we don’t see electricity in this community and if any politicians comes to the school to do campaign the youth will pelt stones at their vehicles and their vehicles will break, we will not listen anybody anymore if there is no lights no campaigned” Daam lamented.

He emphasized that if politicians attempt to campaign in Nuug without addressing the electricity situation, the youth will throw stones at their vehicles.

Mrs Naabil Yinzor

The community’s grievances extend beyond electricity. Mrs. Naabil Yinzor, a local woman, highlighted the dire lack of resources, mentioning that families sometimes go hungry for days due to the absence of a grinding mill in the area. Residents must walk several kilometers to grind millet for their children’s meals.

Yinzor urged the government to intervene and alleviate their struggles. The community is resolute: without tangible support, they will no longer tolerate empty promises from politicians.
