Binduri NPP Primaries: Lawyer supervises acclamation despite court injunction

Upper East regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over the weekend led an acclamation exercise at Binduri amid a court injucting the activity.

Lawyer Anthony Namoo and some regional executive, the regional minister, Stephen Yakubu and some Constituency executives on Saturday January 27, 2024 organized the party annual delegates conference at the Binduri Community Senior school in the Upper East Region and along the line acclaimed the the incumbent Member of Parliament, Abdulai Abanga as its parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2024 elections, although an injunction has been placed on the acclamation exercise.

Addressing the gathering, Lawyer Anthony Namoo took party members through the pending injunction which has been secured by a disgruntled contender.

One Alex Avoka Amolebugri who was disqualified base on some discrepancy of his names on his certificates and others alledged offences got a Bolgatanga high to place an injunction on the acclamation event.

But, Lawyer Anthony Namoo revealed that the vetting Committee members in their own wisdom explained the problems of Alex Avoka Amolebugri to him as party members not to contest because of the numerous issues against him but, he did not listen and have taken the party to court.

He however told the delegates that Ahaji Abdulai Abanga was the sole candidate for the party until the court decide otherwise.

At the event, he could be heard asking the delegates whether they have accepted Abdulai Abanga as the sole candidate, to which the delegates answered in the affirmative.

“So, delegates at this juncture, we have the hourable Member of Parliament for Binduri and as you know, he is the sole candidate until we hear from the court. So we want to hear from you (the delegates) what is your pleasure, tell us, let us know before we rise and go, tell us what you think”

In response, all the delegates present declared their support for the Member of Parliament , Abdulai Abanga.

Lawyer Anthony Namoo in reaction to the delegates response quizzes them again and the delegates responded yes by clapping their hands.

Abdula Abanga thanked the delegates for the overwhelming support the delegates and the New Patriotic Party gave him.

“I want to say that I am overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity again given to me. This group of delegates and the party have again given me the opportunity to represent them in 2024. By the grace almighty Allah, we are successful to represent them for the second time as the member of Parliament”.
