Bawku NPP primaries: Defeated lawyer asks EC to leave polling station after losing by one vote

Lawyer Alhaji Mohammed Tahiru Nambe

Lawyer Mohammed Tahiru Nambe, a legal practitioner who prior to the recent parliamentary primaries elections boasted of his political prowess was crushed down by a single one.

Paul Alale Agobriri, a first time contender managed to defeat five other contestants.

Could be heard verbally fighting the Municipal team of the electoral commission as he asked them to leave the venue.

This was after a recount and failed attempts from Lawyer Nambe for the electoral commission to reject one of the votes so as to enable runoff was rejected by officials of the electoral commission.

“ I am going to say that professionally, we have seen the paper as correct vote, it is not a rejected ballot, but we going to you two things. professionally, we have come to support you do your election, but if you think that our professional advice will not work, we will give you your things and leave peacefully”. Aminu Abu Akaribo, the Bawku municipal director of the electoral commission.

In a sharp response, however, Lawyer Mohammed Tahiru retorted “you leave peaceful, leave our things and leave peacefully, we can do our things”.
His verbal salvo however did not scare the electoral commission as it went ahead and declared the elected candidate, the parliamentary candidate of the party for the 2024 parliamentary polls.

A total of 685 votes were recorded with one rejected vote.

This is how the contenders fared:

Mohammed Tahiru Nambe pulled 175 votes

Amadu Mogtar Bagya 162 votes,

Mahmud Issah zakari 102 votes,

Paul Alale Agobriri 176 votes,

The former parliamentary candidate, Agbanwaa Gabiana Abugri got 33 votes.

Salifu Bashir 35 votes.

Speaking exclusively to the media, the elected Paul Alale Agobriri noted that the contest was really very tough, but his victory was for the New Patriotic Party and his colleagues. For him it is the New Patriotic Party that has won.

Paul Alale Agobriri added that the victory is for his colleague contestants and that the party need the efforts of everybody to unseat the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), Member of Parliament for Bawku central constituency, Mr Mahama Ayariga.

“It was really a tough contest, but it is the NPP that has won. They are not losers. so I am praying that for us to unseat the incumbent MP, then we have to come together as one”.

He expressed optimism of unseating the Member Parliament for Bawku central constituency, come December 2024.
