Bolga East: Dr Nadia screened and fed the aged

Dr. Nadia Adongo Musah Fynn, Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs at the office of the President (DAOOP), and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Ntuune Foundation has organized a health screening exercise for the aged in the Bolgatanga East District in the Upper East Region.

The Ntuune Pogyua Foundation which was formed in 2018, was named after her late father who lived 105 years.

Ntuune, a Grune word to wit, ‘my duty’. she noted that her late father used to say his duty was to touch lives during yuletide.

Health screening

The two-day program, meant to check the health status of the aged centered on malaria, Hepatise B, diabetes, blood pressure and others.

According to Dr. Nadia, the annual health screening and merry-making with the aged is an honour to them for their enormous contribution to society.

“I want them to know that Ntuune Pogyua Foundation will always remember them when it’s cones to Christmas and that whatever the contributed to this world to get to what they are today we’ve not forgotten them , as you know older people always have a unique stories of their own and so it’s just unfortunate that some of them find themselves to be where they are, today where they are deprived as a foundation our mandate is to make sure they are well taking care of and that is why we choose today to celebrate Christmas with them”.

She noted that Ntuune Pogyua Foundation targeted over 500 aged within the district and so far per their distribution, they have exhausted their target. The aged had health screening on day one and day two was for merry-making. They were fed food and all kinds of assorted drinks; alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of their choices, six yards cloth for each and some unspecified amount of money.

Dr. Nadia added that this year’s health screening exercise saved three lives of the aged. During the screening, doctors realized their blood pressure level was above normal, so the doctors have to quickly admit them to ensure their blood pressure was normalized.

“There was an old lady that came here yesterday, she told me that the last time she had a medical screening was the last time Ntuune Pogyua Foundation was in the community, yesterday they were three that were admitted according to one of the doctors we had saved three lives, when they check their blood pressure they were over 200, no human being blood pressure should above that”.

The physician in-charge of the Gambigo Health Center, Mr Yeleko-ang John expressed satisfaction over the exercise. He called on Ghana Health Service to consider partnering with organisations that has interest in such ventures.

Speaking exclusively to some of the aged, Nma Atipoka, a native of Zuarungu Mosi thanked Dr. Nadia for the health screening, the food, the drinks, money and the six yards of cloth she gave them to spend thristmas.

Ataanga Amobire

Ataaga Amobire, a physically challenged young man from Zuarungu Kunkua told Word News that he was grateful to Dr. Nadia.
