Bawku: Mahama and Bawumia should help resolve conflict before 2024 polls— Prof. Azumah

The president of the Kausag Peoples’ Congress (KPC), Professor John Allembillah has made a passionate appeal to the Flagbearers of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patrotic Party to help resolve the chronic conflict.

The Executive Director of The Sanneh Institute, Legon made the call during a demonstration held by the Kussaug Peoples’ Congress at Garu against a recent military brutality in the area.

Military personnel stormed Garu and Bugri and subjected several people to severe molestation. Prof Azumah during the charged demonstration called on John Drahamani Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to find solution to the Bawku conflict before the 2024 general elections.

“I want to called on the two presidential candidates of the main political parties, Dr. Mahamudu Bawamia and John Drahamani Mahama. These are two sons from the North, these are two illustrious sons of the North. I want to call upon them that they must sit up and bring peace to Kusaug immediately. If they cannot bring peace to Kusaug, if they cannot bring peace to Bawku, what is the grantee that they can bring peace to all of Ghana? So I’m asking our two illustrious sons, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, John Drahamani Mahama as the leading candidates running to be the president of Ghana, you must make sure the problem in Kasaug, the problem in Bawku is solve before the 2024 election”.

Speaking to the media after the red-coloured demonstration that seek to demand justice for the over 200 people who were brutalised by the military on October 25 ,2023.

The colourful crowded demonstration brought people from all walks of lifes.

The Member of Parliament for Garu, Albert Alanzuga Akuka, The 2024 National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary candidate for Garu, Dr. Thomas Anaba. Former district chief executives, Assembly members, various youth groups, joined the demonstration.

principal streets of Garu were flooded with various placards with inscriptions, some of which read “See something run away”.

“Kasaug needs freedom”.
“Garu will rise again stronger”, “The army should go back to the barracks”.

The Member of parliament for Garu, Mr. Albert Alanzuga Akuka described the military brutalities as disgusting. The brutalities led to the death of a young man. Mr. Alanzuga disclosed that he and his colleagues law makers will present the concerns of the people of Garu and Tempane people in parliament on Thursday, November 9, 2023. The minister in charge of national security is set to appear parliament to answer questions with regards to what led to the brutalities in Garu and Bugri.
