The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has pulled down the permanent structure that was constructed to replace a temporal structure within the Bencyn yard (Former MTN office) that was been operated by Hon. Rita Atanga, the District Chief Executive of the Bongo District Assembly as a drinking spot.
Word News reported on 6th August, 2023 that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly was in a power struggle with the District Chief Executive of the Bongo District Assembly, Hon. Rita Atanga, who defied orders from the Municipal Assembly to stop erecting a permanent structure on it’s property located opposite the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly.
Subsequently a team from the Assembly led by the Municipal building inspector, Mr. Awumi Alphonsus rushed to the place and placed a notice directing the artisans who were busily working to stop work and asked the owner, Hon. Rita, to produce her permit.
The unruly Bongo DCE defied the orders of the officers of the Municipal Assembly to stop work, and proceeded with the construction of the structure till it was roofed obviously in a show of power and “who you know”.
An obvious angry and helpless law enforcer of the assembly promised to report the attitude of the DCE who has trespassed her colleague’s territory to break laws with impunity to his boss.
When our reporter visited the place on Monday 8th August, 2023, the structure had been pulled down leaving only a metal container.
Insiders told our reporter that the destruction of the structure was without a fight. It is alleged that some of the officers who were enforcing the orders of the Assembly received some slaps from some thugs that were called to the scene to stop the demolition.
