Sirigu Paramount Chief to Lead Demonstration Over Bad Roads

The Paramount Chief of the Sirigu traditional area, Naba Roland Akwara Atogumdeya III, will on Saturday, 29th August, 2023, lead a demonstration of his subjects against government over its failure to construct the poor roads network in his traditional area and major roads linking the eastern block of the Kasena Nankana West to the regional capital, Bolgatanga and the district Capital of Kassena-Nankana West District.

The eastern part of the Kasena Nankana West district which includes sirigu, have one of the poorest road networks in the region with most bridges collapsing over years. In some instances of torrential rains, the community is usually cut off from its capital of Paga and Bolgatanga because the roads are usually flooded.

The situation has become even worse with the collapse of the Navio bridge and the almost collapsed Sirigu-Zokor bridge which threatens the movement of vehicles in and out of the districts.

The situation caused the Paramount Chief of Sirigu Naba Roland to call a meeting of a general meeting with all the five divisional chiefs and Queen mothers of the area to deliberate on the nature of the roads in the area on the 9th of August 2023.

According to the Paramount chief, all efforts to get the attention of government to fixf the bad nature of roads and broken bridges in the area including visiting the Regional minster to complain of the roads and then the Ministry of Roads and Highways with the same complaints have proven unsuccessful.

The Paramount chief and his five divisional chiefs and Queen mothers have therefore reached a resolution after the general meeting to stage a demonstration to tell the whole country and world what they are going through.

Their complains comes after government declaring 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 as years of roads but the people of Sirigu can’t even get a better road within the communityyo carry outtheir traditing and other activities.
