Former President, John Dramani Mahama says the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will investigate and compensate families whose relatives were shot by Military Officers in Bawku.
Addressing Party delegates from the Bawku Central and Binduri Constituencies in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, the Flag bearer hopeful of the NDC reiterated the need for peace in Bawku.
Former President Mahama who is on a two-day campaign tour of the Region, alleged that anytime the New Patriotic Party assumed power, there was always insecurity in Bawku .
“When NDC is in office, we live in peace, as soon as they come, they will destabilize everything. Look at what is happening, killings, and I wish to condemn the killing of innocent citizens by our Military.
“Our Military is supposed to protect us, we pay taxes to give them those weapons, and they are supposed to use the weapons to protect us, and not to kill us.
“And so when we come, we will like to find out what caused the death of those people, and we must make sure their families are adequately compensated for their wrongful death,” he assured.
He appealed to both parties in the conflict to embrace peace to promote economic activities in the area, as the current situation in Bawku does not create room for businesses to strive.
He said due to the insecurity, doctors, nurses, teachers and many workers refused postings to Bawku.
