Information available to word news indicates that the Brazilian contractor working on the Bolgatanga-Bawku Pulimakon road had abandoned work and moved all machinery out of site on the first week of February 2023.
Word news investigations has gathered that due to the current Domestic Debt Exchange program (DDE), government is unable to do repayments of bilateral loans.

The Bolga-Bawku Pulimakon road project in the Upper East Region which is currently enjoying loan support from the capital Bank and many other projects which are under similar funding has been halted due the domestic debt exchange program.

Numerous projects in the country will suffer the consequences.
However, Word News has gathered that although the government, through the Ministry of Roads and Highways, met with some contractors who have been affected by the conditionalities of the Domestic Debt Exchange (DDE) programme two weeks ago and promised to resolve the issue, the government is yet to settle on terms and conditions regarding repayment of all bilateral loans.

It is uncovered that a considerable number 14 expatriate and 468 local staff workers and subcontractors have been laid off due to the funding challenges.

Progress of work on the steel bridges

The contractor has been engaged in vigorous work on the steel bridge at the Bolgatanga Kula river, Tilli, and the white volta steel bridge before the issue of funding arose.
The Bawku Chieftaincy dispute between the Mamprusis and Kussasis has been one of the biggest challenges of the contractor which has stalled the construction of the bypass in the Bawku township .
