Mamprusi youth in Bawku has ask President Nana Addo Akuffo to reshuffle the Upper East Regional minister, Mr. Stephen Yakubu over allegations that the minister is biase towards his discharge duty on the security matters regarding the conflict in Bawku.
The youth at a press conference address by Abdul Majeed Bagura alleged that the Upper East Regional minister who is the head of the Upper East Regional Security Council (RESEC) has provided security patrols and escorts for the Bolgatanga – Tamale highways, thus ignoring the Bolgatanga- Bawku high, Bawku – Cinkase road, Bawku – Pulimakom road.
“He has provided escorts for his tribe people from Bolga to Tamale meanwhile look at the Bolga-Bawku road , Bawku Cinkase road, Bawku Kulungugu road there is no any escorts services , so as a regional minister are you telling us that your interest is to protect the lives and properties of Kusasis , as for the Mamprusis your people can continue to kill them you do not care, we heard the president is about to make a reshuffle, we are calling on him the first person to reshuffle is Stephen Yakubu because he is not prepared to protect the lives and property of the people of Ghana, we are also calling him to immediately constitute an escorts services from Bolga to Bawku , Bawku to Cinkase, from Bawku to Kulungugu so that the market woman can begin to ply their trade to get their livelihood and the unauthorized road blocks should be immediately be disbandled.
He noted that providing a 24 hours security patrols and escorts along those highways will prevent the killing of innocent lives and the destruction of property .
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu debunked the allegations level against him.
He told Word News that he as a regional minister and leader of RESEC does not take unilateral decisions on security issues and security matters.
He disclose that the three most recent attacks on the Bolga – Walewale – Tamale highways security escorts and patrols were instituted by the North East Regionals security council but not the Upper East Regional security council.
“because they want to find a bad name to hang the dog and to kill it, they are saying that I am the one who is doing it, so if three cars were attacked and the people complained the minister there should just allow the cars to be going through so that people will attack them simply because the mamprusi youth will say I am the one who has done it ? As a regional minister, nobody has ever come here to request for escort and we refuse them, I happened to be a Kusasis man from Bawku it does not mean that when you are in the region you should play and please your tribe it doesn’t happen like that. when you sit at RESEC meeting you don’t dictate. At RESEC meetings, the chairman doesn’t dictate. You are just a chairman and when it comes to voting, you have only one vote and we sit there and look at what we can do to bring peace to the region”
