The Mamprusi youth in Bawku in the Upper East has called on President Nana Akuffo Addo to take bold decision to resolve the long standing Chieftaincy impasse between the Kusasis and Mamprusis over Bawku skin.
Speaking to the media in Bawku, the secretary to the Mamprusi youth, Abdul Majeed Bagura called on the President to take bold steps to bring lasting peace to Bawku. He noted that former President John Kuffour initiated peace process in the Dagon case during his tenure.
“The president should know that if he leaves office now and Bawku is still in this particular state, it is going to be a blanked to his government, so it is better for president Akuffo Addo to prepare himself to set up a committee just like president Kuffour took and set up a committee who looked into the Yaanaa issue, president Akuffo Addo should be bold enough to set up a committee an eminent committee or refer the issue to the National House of chiefs and ask them to set up a committee to look at the root cause of the Bawku conflict so that we can get a lasting solution to all these needless deaths and firing of guns all nights”. Majeed fumes.
He however pleaded with the government not to abandon the case but to express key interest in the conflict situation in Bawku to ensure there is lasting peace in Bawku.
