UE/R: Jacob Abagna-Gongo Donates Books and Pens to Regional Education Directorate.

The popular two string also called Kolko musician from Bolga Yorogo in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Mr. Jacob Abagna-Gongo, has donated branded exercise books , pens and pencils to the Upper East Regional Education Directorate to be distributed to students in selected schools in the Upper East Region.

The singer who uses the two string or kolko instrument to exhibit his talent made the gesture as part of his effort to promote education in the region.

” I couldn’t further my education but I had a bit of encounter with education. Though I couldn’t further, I encouraged children to take their studies serious. So I decided to support school children with some education materials but I wasn’t resourced enough to be able to do that so I sold the idea with my supporters and fans and they bought into it and that is how we mobilised resources to buy this materials which I am handing over to the education directorate today. “

A representative of the supporters of Abagna-Gongo explained that they bought the idea of donating books to school children because it is a gesture that will go along way to improve the lives of the school children. He said apart from the musician using his music to transform lives, the gesture of donating books and pens will complement that effort.

The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Nana Baba Salifu Alemyaarum, who was the chairman of the occasion commended the musician for his vision

” Though Jacob couldn’t go to school, what is important is wisdom and you have proven that though you couldn’t go further in your education, this gesture shows that you are better than even those who are educated. This donation will help some of the children to become doctors and teachers in the future. I also call on the Frafra Musicians Association to take this initiative up and replicate it.”

Receiving the items, a representative of the regional education directorate, Mr. Lambert who is also the coordinator of basic schools in the region, praised the popular musician for coming out with the decision to help students with education materials. He also called on other musicians and stakeholders to emulate the gesture by the two string musician to help improve education in the region.

Professor Atamina, the general secretary of FRAMA, commended Abagna-Gongo and his supporters for breaking the ground as the first ever FRAMA musician to take up the challenge to support society.

” FRAMA is 12 years old today and there were many musicians even before we joined but none of them have ever done what Mr. Agongo has done today. What we are witnessing today is a wakeup call for all members of FRAMA. I want to challenge FRAMA to start thinking of how to take up this initiative so that in few years to come, it will not be only Abagna-Gongo doing this but all members of FRAMA “

The occasion was also graced by Chief’s from Gambibgo, Dulugu, Bolga Yipaala, Yikene, representative from the Bolgatanga Municipality Education Directorate and members of FRAMA.

The items donated included 1,100 branded exercise books, 500 pens and 500 pencils.
