Bongo:Road Caves in, Apowongo Community Faces Imminent Cut Off.

The sky on Sunday got pregnant and poured it’s offspring on the earth the whole of Sunday 18th September, 2022 causing a lot of havoc in some rural communities.

The Apowongo Community in the Dua-Yikene Appwongo electoral area im the Bongo District is one of the community that was not spared by the torrential rains. The only road that connects the community to the district capital, Bongo and Bolgatanga, faces total collapse after majority portion of the road caved in due to the pressure from a river that passes through a bridge on the road.

When our reporter got to the bridge, the youth of the community had come out with motorkings and shovels to fill out the caved part of the road to enable commuters commune on the road and to avert the possible accidents that may occur if the remaining of the road collapses.

The youth who were mostly from the Apowongo Community were seen carrying sand and stones to fill out the caved portion.

Hon. Roger Abugre, the assembly member of the Dua-Yikene -Apowongo electoral area said the issue has been reported to the district engineer and the Diatrict Chief Executive but none had visited the sight to have a firsthand information about the issue three days after it occurred.

“The road caved in on Sunday afternoon after the torrential rains on Sunday. I quickly called to inform the district engineer and the District Chief Executive but none came to the scene. I then followed up to the district but the excuse they gave me was that they have a workshop with the Local Government Minster but asked that I rather send them pictures which I have done”

A resident and a member of the community, Mr. Aka-Ere Isaac, said the road is the only road that links the community to Bongo which is their district capital and Bolgatanga. He said community members will be cut off from these towns if the road is allowed to collapse completely.

” If you look at our community, Apowongo is connected to Bongo and Bolga by this road. This is where we pass to the market and the hospital. The way this road has caved in, it will be difficult for motorkings to carry heavy load across it, but that is also one of our major means of transport. We will become an island if the road collapse completely”

Meanwhile Hon. Roger has appealed to government and other benevolent organisations to speedily attend to the road to avert the total collapse of the road.
