Bawku: four arrested over gun shots.

Four persons have been arrested in Bawku by security personnel on Friday night following sporadic gun shots in parts of the town. The incident occurred few days after a joint peace-finding dialogue between elders of the feuding factions in Tamale. This outlet is informed that the dialogue which was chaired by the national security minister ended amicably and had the two factions signed a peace communique.

There has been a renewed conflict between the Kussasis and Mamprusis over an intended celebration of a funeral rites of Naa Alhaji Adam Tampuri who died some forty-one years ago.

Documents available to this outlet indicates that a similar plan by the Mamprusis to perform the funeral in 2011 was stopped by the Bawku Municipal security council. The municipal security council on 24th October 2011 wrote back to the chief of Nayire [the traditional home of Mamprugu] citing among other things, security reasons for its inability to grand permission for the performance of the funeral rites.

Bawku Municipal Chief Executive – Amadu Hamza in an interview with Word news in Bolgatanga  stated that police investigations are still ongoing. He noted that the outcome of the police investigations will spell the way forward.

Inspector General of Police – Dr. George Akuffo Dampare recently held separate closed-door meetings with elders of the two factions in Bawku.
