UE: Peter Ayimbisa Neglected Assemblymen, Initiated Projects Through Party Agents.

Bongo DCE

The outgoing District Chief Executive officer of the Bongo district has been accused of neglecting assembly members of some electoral areas of the Bongo district in the execution of developmental projects, but rather used party branch executives instead during her tenure.

A lot of people in the Bongo district and some parts of the Upper East region were taken aback when The minister for Local Government, Dan Botwe at the minister’s press briefing on Sunday, September 19, 2021 named the DCE nominee for the Bongo district as Madam Rita Atanga instead of “the people’s favorite” Hon. Peter Ayimbisa.

However, it is being revealed that the Hon. Peter Ayimbisa was not the “the people’s favorite” after all. Speaking in a phone interview on the Word Community Watch show on Word Fm in Zuarungu, the Assembly member for the Longo electoral area, Hon. Philemon Bon, disclosed that the Hon. Outgoing DCE was not fair to all members of the Assembly during his reign as a DCE and that he was not surprised that Ayimbisa was not renominated”

“there were few things that he did well. Look at roads, the Bongo Balungu Bridge, he did his best but its not surprising that he didn’t get it. “

Hon. Philemon said the DCE relegated some assembly members in the execution of projects in their electoral areas with suspicion that those assembly members did not like him or for some reasons.

“ As an Assembly member, people came to my community without my knowledge, even party branch executives held meetings in my electoral area and when projects came in, they were the people leading without my knowledge. My community members even complained as to why party branch executives are the people leading the execution of projects and not me. One of my colleagues even told me that they called him to come and sign some documents after they had executed one project in his electoral area. Though he was not happy, he signed the documents because of its benefit to the people.”

Hon. Philimon said he does not know the DCE nominee for the district and he has received same questions from people in the district as to who she is. He said the lack of knowledge of the personality of the DCE will make her confirmation difficult.

“ my community member don’t know her and she hasn’t contacted me yet. So I suggest that a forum is organized for the nominee to meet the assembly members to tell us her knowledge and plans for the district for us to consider confirming her or not because it will be difficult to just meet one day and confirm or reject someone you don’t know, you may be rejecting a good person.”

Meanwhile the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development is confident a majority of the Chief Executives nominated will be confirmed within 10 days from the release of the appointment list.
