UE/R: Notorious Armed Robber Gunned Down, Girl Friend In Police Custody

The Ghana police service in the Upper East Region has shot a notorious armed robber in the Bolgatanga municipality on Sunday 8th August, 2021 in a gun battle with the police.

The armed robber, Stephen Atiah was shot when he attempted escaping from the grips of the police after his arrest. Luck however eluded the notorious arm robber as police opened fire on him in the process.

Stephen Atiah and his accomplish have been involved in various criminal activities in the Bolgatanga Municipality and its environs, snatching motor bikes and other properties from their owners at gunpoint.

Stephen Atiah and his accomplice have been on the wanted list of the police service in the region for some time now after engaging in various armed robbery activities with his gun wielding gang. The police have since been on a man hunt for him as he continued his robbery activities even after the District court declared him wanted.

The regional Public Relations Officer, ASP David Fianko of the Ghana Police Service in a press release to the media disclosed that Stephen Atiah was arrested at a popular entertainment spot in the municipality. He initially agreed to lead the police to the hideout of his accomplice but tried escaping from the police in the process. The police then opened fire at his direction and shot him in the process.

He was pronounced dead by health personal at the Upper East Regional Hospital when the police team rushed him there.

His girl friend who was with him and suspected to be one of his accomplice has been arrested and is in police custody assisting in investigations.
