The Upper East Regional police headquarters has inaugurated a new police divisional command for the Bolgatanga municipality.
The edifice which has been reverted from a police canteen to a divisional police command was renovated at an undisclosed amount by the Upper East Regional police command. The renovated edifice will serve as office accommodation for the newly posted divisional police commander, C/S Deli Dzamasi.
The sectorial command is a sub-division of the regional police command which is a congregation of four (4) districts including Bolgatanga Municipal, Bongo District, Zuarungu District, and Talensi District. The sub-division will coordinate the few divisions under its control for efficient policing and command within its catchment area.
The division will be equipped with various units such as the DOVVSU and patrol units which is all aimed at ensuring efficient policing within the region.
The divisional commander who will serve as the first divisional police commander of the municipality while addressing the gathering said, “ though many police divisions existed in other parts of the country, the Bolgatanga environs and some few environs were deprived of this units since their roles were elsewhere swallowed by the various regional command”
C/S Deli said the police took notice of the short fall of divisions in the area made plans to create one and that has brought about the creation of the bolgatanga division “the police administration having noticed the shortfall of divisions within the instructed areas, made pals to create them”
The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive who serves as the chairman of the Municipal Security Council(MUSEC), Hon. Joseph Amiyure pledged to support the division In all programs it will want to undertake.
DCOP Osei Ampofo Duku, the Upper East Regional police commander said it was very difficult creating a sub-division in the Upper East region especial ally that the region only had only one which is in sharp contrast of the situation in other regions. He said the idea of a divisional police division has been on the drawing board for over 10 years. He expressed his satisfaction at the final inauguration of the Bolgatanga divisional police command.
The Bolgatanga police divisional command is the second division in the region after the Bawku divisional command.
