Kasena Nankana West: Paga Youth Movement supports doctor with Gh¢20,000 for accepting posting to Paga hospital, donates Gh¢10,000 to fix up consulting room

The Paga Youth Movement in the Kassena Nankana West District of Ghana’s Upper East Region has supported a newly posted medical doctor, Dr. Ama Antwiwaa Adu-Appiah, with GH¢20,000 to help her settle comfortably at Paga Hospital, following her acceptance of posting to the facility.

Speaking to the media at the hospital, Mr. Frederick Wugaa, Vice Chairman of the Paga Youth Movement, expressed appreciation to Dr. Ama Antwiwaa Adu-Appiah for accepting the posting and for coming to serve the people of Paga.

Mr. Wugaa explained that the Youth Movement members mobilize the GH¢20,000 as a token of appreciation, saying they were happy to see the doctor working actively at the children’s ward and helping to save lives.

He noted that accepting postings to rural areas is not always easy, and he believes Dr. Adu-Appiah’s decision is an honor to the community.He added that the Youth Movement also received complaints about the hospital’s consulting rooms not always being conducive, and as a result, they have set aside an additional GH¢10,000 cash to address the issue.

Mr. Wugaa said they are requesting a list of priority items from the hospital management regarding what needs to be fixed in the consulting room, so the Youth Movement can use the amount to support the improvement of the facility.

He emphasized that when the consulting room is not conducive, it affects the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Paga and surrounding communities.Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital and Dr. Adu-Appiah,

He said the Youth Movement is one of the most vibrant groups, citing their concern for healthcare and their role in ensuring smooth support for newly posted staff.Mr. Asobayire appealed to the Youth Movement to continue visiting the hospital regularly to understand the facility’s needs, explaining that some challenges may not be solved by hospital staff alone

She said working at Paga Hospital has been a learning experience for her, and that one key lesson she will always remember is that the hospital staff are like a family. From the nurses and physician assistants to the laboratory staff and other workers, she said everyone has contributed to her ability to stay and continue working for the past months.

Dr. Adu-Appiah noted that while the Youth Movement may have identified her as the “heroine” for accepting posting, she believes the entire hospital team should be appreciated as an entity. She explained that before she came, the staff were already serving, and since her arrival, she has seen greater commitment and teamwork across all units.

She urged the Paga Youth Movement to support not only herself but the hospital staff generally, emphasizing that healthcare delivery is not done by doctors alone patients, nurses, and all staff members also play major roles.

Dr. Adu-Appiah assured the Youth Movement that the GH¢20,000 she received will not remain with her alone. She said she intends to share part of the support with staff as a form of motivation.
