The Bongo District District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs. Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, in Ghana’s Upper East Region, has been confirmed overwhelmingly with 81% following her confirmation process on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
She expressed deep gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for her appointment, describing it as “a wake-up call and representation for women.” Mrs. Ayamga pledged that she would not disappoint her fellow women, saying she would stand with them to champion their developmental needs as a woman DCE.
She also spoke about the vision of the late DCE, Hon. Joseph Abaa Akasake, urging all assembly members to unite and support the “forge and fight” agenda for the development of Bongo.
She called for an inclusive approach to complete existing projects started by the late DCE and to initiate new projects in communities that still require support and opportunities.Mrs. Ayamga further said her appointment and confirmation would bring comfort to her husband, Mr. Joseph Akansake Abaah, who she said continues to rest peacefully “wherever he is, even though he is in the land of the spirit,” describing him as a development-oriented person who would have loved to see Bongo developed.Mrs. Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, expressed gratitude to God, and to the people of Bongo for the trust and confidence placed in her.
She also requested support, noting that the support given to the late DCE, Mr. Joseph Abaa Akaseke, would continue to empower to duty
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, swore in Mrs Diana Asoketarige Ayamga as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Bongo District Assembly after she secured 44 “yes” votes against 10 no votes,.Mr Donatus Akamugri urged assembly members to vote unanimously in honour of the late DCE, Mr. Joseph Abaah Akansake.
He noted that the swearing-in was happening exactly one year and one day after the Assembly last gathered to confirm a DCE, under what he described as unfortunate circumstances**, following the untimely death of the late Hon. Akansake.Akamugri noted that as he stand before them today with a heart that is heavy with grief, yet strengthened by a profound sense of duty. Joseph Abaa Akaseke passing is not only a great loss to his immediate family, but also to the entire Bongo District and the Region at large. He served with dedication, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the development and well-being of his people.He emphasized that governance must continue despite the loss. “Even in the face of this profound loss, governance must continue and development must not be allowed to stall. The vision we collectively share for the people of Bongo, under the Resetting Agenda, is one that must not only be sustained, but decisively advanced.”
The Minister described Mrs. Diana as “no stranger to this district,” and stated that she possesses ,the competence, temperament, and commitment required to continue the good work of her predecessor and to take this district to even greater heights.”
He urged assembly members to rise above partisanship, calling the decision before them “a defining moral moment,” and appealed for a unanimous confirmation **without division, without hesitation, and without reservation.
He warned that any delay could risk “stalling progress and depriving our people of the development they rightfully deserve.”“Let your ‘yes’ today echo the collective will of the people of Bongo.
Let it stand as a symbol of stability, progress, and a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of the man we have lost,” he said
.The paramount chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Alemyaarum, called on the DCE, Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, to love all and hate no one. He urged her to put measures in place to bring development and to continuously seek guidance in areas where she might need fresh ideas.
He assured her of strong support from the Bongo Traditional Council to help her succeed in all challenging endeavours within their capacity.
