The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has cut sod for the construction of 11 GETFund projects on the 15 of April 2026, to upgrade the Sherigu Senior High School in the Municipality in the Upper East Region.

The Sherigu Senior High School began as a private school in 2014, before being taken over by government in 2018.
However, it started without adequate infrastructure, relying mainly on the facilities of the Sherigu Junior High School and Primary School. In addition, the Anglican Church supported the school with a vocational block, which was later used as the boys’ dormitory, while the teachers’ quarters of the Junior High School were converted into girls’ accommodation.

The Upper East Regional Minister appealed to the Sherigu community and their traditional authorities to ensure proper documentation of the school’s lands to safeguard the educational infrastructure and prevent future land disputes.
Addressing residents of Sherigu during the sod-cutting ceremony for major development projects at the Bolga Sherigu Senior High School, the Minister urged the Bolga–Sherigu Naba, Aluman Apasenaba II, to formalize ownership of the school’s land. He warned that failure to do so could result in individuals or groups later demanding compensation, which may disrupt the smooth administration of the school and tarnish its image.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Hon. Roland Ayoo, noted that while the NDC is currently in opposition, it had promised equitable development for Bolga Sherigu.
He said the commencement of these projects demonstrates the government’s commitment to fulfilling that promise. The headmistress of the school, Madam Janne Edna Karaah, expressed gratitude to the government for the intervention.
She explained that the school has operated for a long time with temporary structures, which has affected effective teaching and learning.
She also appealed to the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to complete a 3-unit classroom block that was started by the Assembly but later stalled.
The projects earmarked for the school include a 3-storey, 18-unit classroom block, Storey dormitory blocks with courtyards for boys, Storey dormitory blocks with courtyards for girls, 2 storey administration/library blocks, a 12-seater toilet facility Four (4) semi-detached staff bungalows (each with 2 bedrooms)(as stated in the original story, but I kept the list as you wrote it) a 3-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow When completed, these projects are expected to improve the facilities of Sherigu Senior High School and enhance effective teaching and learning.
