The newly confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo, Hon. Akaseke Joseph Abaa, has expressed gratitude to the assembly members, the paramount chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Alemyaarum, and all the people of Bongo for the overwhelming endorsement and confidence placed in him to serve as their DCE.

Addressing assembly members, stakeholders, and the people of Bongo at the Bongo District Circuit Court in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Hon. Abaa noted that he secured 52 valid votes out of a total of 54. He emphasized that his confirmation as DCE is an endorsement of the nomination by President John Dramani Mahama. His role, he stated, is not to rule but to serve the people of Bongo and to share ideas that will help reshape the district’s developmental opportunities.

He added that his overwhelming endorsement means he is now officially part of the assembly, and that the office belongs to everyone. “I was not nominated by President Mahama to rule but to serve the good people of Bongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana,” he asserted.
Hon. Abaa promised to prioritize inclusive, open, and participatory leadership. He is committed to engaging all stakeholders in the district, including revered chiefs and elders, youth, assembly members, and women, relying on their counsel and feedback to strengthen and grow the district through accountability.

“My administration will be inclusive and participatory. To our revered chiefs and elders, I will seek your counsel regularly; assembly members, I will work hand in hand with you and rely on your knowledge of our communities. To the youth, your energy and creativity are crucial – I will ensure we have channels for your ideas and feedback. To the women of Bongo, you will have a strong voice in our decision-making, and we will support your initiatives,” he said.
He pledged that his door will always be open to everyone, regardless of party affiliation or background. “If citizens of the district have a concern or suggestion, I want to hear it because I believe that by working together, we can achieve the progress the district desires.”

The paramount chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Alemyaarum, who played a key role in the assembly’s ability to elect a presiding member, urged Hon. Philimon Ataba, assembly member for Bongo Soe, to step down in favor of Hon. Sampson Mba Asampana, who received 35 votes out of 54. This was essential for electing a presiding member for the Bongo District Assembly, which had been unable to do so for the past three years.
Naba Baba Salifu also called on the people of Bongo to unite in advocating for the division of the constituency into two, to secure more development across all areas of both constituencies.
