Bolgatanga East: Jacob Aka-eri Secures 95.8% Confirmation as DCE

Hon Jacob Aka-eri Abugre DCE Bolgatanga  East District

Hon. Jacob Aka-eri Abagre has been confirmed as the first District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, representing the National Democratic Congress since the district’s creation in 2018. In a vote among the 24 assembly members, 23 voted in favour while one vote was rejected.

Addressing the people of Bolgatanga East, Hon. Aka-eri pledged to work closely with key stakeholders to tackle the district’s pressing challenges. He emphasized the community’s demand for accountability, inclusive growth, and leadership that listens to the people’s concerns. The issues facing the district are multifaceted, including youth unemployment, infrastructure gaps, climate vulnerabilities, and limited access to quality healthcare and education.

Despite these challenges, Hon. Aka-eri remains optimistic. He believes that with vision, strategy, and teamwork, they can transform these challenges into opportunities that reflect the district’s aspirations. He envisions a vibrant, inclusive, and progressive Bolgatanga East, where every child has the chance to thrive, women are empowered, and youth have access to jobs—not just handouts. Development will be distributed equitably across the district rather than concentrated in specific areas.

To achieve participatory governance and transparency, he has identified four thematic areas of focus. He aims to deepen decentralization and engage communities directly in planning and implementation, assuring residents that his door will always be open.

Hon. Aka-eri also plans to collaborate with agricultural professionals to enhance skill development for the district’s predominantly farming population. He aims to provide modern agricultural equipment, technology, and market access while investing significantly in agricultural extension services, agro-processing opportunities, and irrigation schemes. His goal is to transition farmers from subsistence to medium – and large-scale production.

In support of Hon. Aka-eri, Hon. Donatus Atanga Akamugri called on assembly members to believe in the district’s potential. He highlighted the importance of considering broader national development interests in their decisions. Endorsing the DCE will facilitate stable leadership, coordination of government programs, and timely delivery of essential development projects. Local governance and decentralization remain central to the government system, but key players, such as assembly members, often face neglect and inadequate compensation.
