Proposed Names and Designations for Districts in the Newly Kusaug Region to be created

Abugri Yakubu Osman , a young political Scientist

The creation of the Kusaug Region marks a transformative phase for the people of the rea, paving the way for better governance, resource distribution, and overall development. As the region is prepared for full administrative and developmental functions, the naming of districts becomes a necessary step to ensure clarity, efficiency, and inclusivity.
Kusaug is currently comprised of six administrative districts. Bawku Central, Bawku West, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, and Tampane, with an estimated population of 579,626. I advise that the Zebilla Constituency should be demarcated to form two constituencies, Kusaug West(Zebilla) and Kusaug Southwest (Binaba), so we can have seven constituencies.
The proposed district names below reflect the geographical positioning of the areas while paying homage to the notable towns and communities within the region.

  1. Kusaug Central (Binduri) Regional Capital
Binduri is proposed as Kusaug Central to serve as the administrative and political capital of the Kusaug Region. Strategically located at the heart of the region, Binduri will become the hub of government activities, infrastructural projects, and regional governance. Its central positioning makes it easily accessible to all other districts, making it an ideal choice for the regional capital.
  2. Kusaug North (Bawku)
Bawku, a historic town in northern Kusaug, is proposed as Kusaug North. Bawku is renowned for its vibrant culture, bustling economy, and key role in the region’s history. As one of the most recognized urban centers, designating it as Kusaug North will affirm its significance and ensure its continued growth as a commercial and cultural hub.
  3. Kusaug South (Garu)
Garu is proposed as Kusaug South, representing the southernmost part of the Kusaug Region. Known for its vast agricultural activities and dynamic communities, Garu holds significant potential for economic development, particularly in farming and trade. The designation highlights Garu’s position as a key player in the southern zone of the region.
  4. Kusaug West (Zebilla)
Zebilla is proposed as Kusaug west, covering the northwestern section of the region. Zebilla serves as an important settlement with a strong economic base, particularly in agriculture and small-scale industries. By recognizing Zebilla as Kusaug West, the region underscores its role as a link between the central district and the west communities.
  5. Kusaug Southwest (Binaba)
Binaba, located in the southwestern part of the Kusaug Region, is proposed as Kusaug Southwest. The area is known for its rich cultural traditions and agricultural contributions. As Kusaug Southwest, Binaba will have the opportunity to further enhance its local economy and become a focal point for regional trade and development initiatives.
  6. Kusaug Northeast (Pusiga)
Pusiga is proposed as Kusaug Northeast, covering the northeastern part of the Kusaug Region. Pusiga is historically significant and culturally rich, with strong ties to the heritage of the Kusaug people. Its designation as Kusaug Northeast recognizes its importance while ensuring focused efforts toward its infrastructural and economic development.
  7. Kusaug East (Tampane)

Tampane is proposed as Kusaug East, representing the southeastern section of the Kusaug Region. Tampane has the potential to serve as a hub for agricultural innovation and local development. Its location makes it strategically significant for connecting the southeastern communities to the rest of the region.
The proposed district names
Kusaug Central (Binduri)
Kusaug North (Bawku)
Kusaug South (Garu)
Kusaug West (Zebilla)
Kusaug Southwest (Binaba)
Kusaug Northeast (Pusiga)
Kusaug East (Tampane)
are grounded in both geography and cultural identity. These names provide a clear, logical, and inclusive administrative framework for the Kusaug Region while recognizing the historic and developmental importance of key towns.
By adopting these names, the Kusaug Region will be well-positioned to deliver effective governance, foster development, and unite its people under a shared sense of identity and purpose.
