The National Democratic Congress communications bureau director for the Upper East Region of Ghana, Mr. Jonathan Salifu Abdullah, has called on the various MMDCEs and NADMO directors in the Upper East Region to desist from the disbursement of any items in the constituencies or districts to avoid an increase in the locking of offices and post-election violence in the country.

Speaking exclusively on the Word Community Watch show on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Mr. Abdullah condemned the post-election violence across the country after the Electoral Commission declared former president and flag bearer John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election.

Responding to the actions of some youth, known as the “Young Democrats” of the National Democratic Congress in the Pusiga district, who locked up the Pusiga District Assembly, Mr. Abdullah noted that they alleged the district chief executive, Mr. Zubeiru Abdulalai, had abandoned assembly activities for about three months and was engaged in looting and mismanagement of funds related to the DRIP equipment. While condemning the youth’s actions, he urged the MMDCEs to collaborate with NDC party executives to address crucial issues affecting Ghanaians, such as the LEAP program and incentives for persons with disabilities.

The youth further claimed that items at the assembly stores were at risk of going missing. Mr. Abdullah emphasized that no officer would agree to store campaign items in either the assembly or the National Disaster Management Organization offices. He advised that if the need arose, MMDCEs should consult NDC leadership to ensure proper conduct and avoid any violence.

He indicated that since there has been a change of power, the new consignment of fertilizer released to districts like Bongo and Binduri would be distributed by the NDC government after H.E. John Dramani Mahama is sworn into office and the new government is fully formed.

“I think they gave the MPs 200 or 300 bags of fertilizer and distributed over a thousand bags to themselves in the first batch. This second batch of fertilizer was intercepted by our party members while it was being transported to Bongo. Our members trailed the vehicle, and we confirmed that those fertilizers were meant for the Bongo and Binduri Districts. Thus, we will distribute them, along with roofing sheets at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly,” Mr. Abdullah stated.

He further noted that the National Democratic Congress swept all parliamentary seats because they engaged in a vigorous campaign to communicate their messages to the grassroots. In contrast, the NPP was criticized for not campaigning seriously, with their national executives failing to visit various constituencies in the Upper East Region.
