Gbani : Ibrahim Awudu wins Gaare-Gbani electoral area elections

A miner, Ibrahim Awudu
has won the Gaare Gbani electoral area elections in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region.

Ibrahim Awudu pulled 1,195 votes, while the incumbent assembly member who doubles as the National Democratic Congress’ constituency chairman for Talensi and a secretary to the Gbani chief, Mr John Millim lost woefully with a 557 votes.
Gilbert Landoliba got 649 votes and Bismark Zumah securing 139 votes.

Known as Gold Baron, the assembly member elect, Ibrahim Awudu expressed his joy over his victory and called on his contenders to join him for them to collectively develop the area. He called for patience as development initiatives takes time.

“The youth know very well that I can help them, that is why they have been supporting me, I will also support them, what is good for them, I will do. But if I know that what I am about do will benefit 20 to 100 people and any old man thinks that it will favour him so we should not do it , I will do it for the interest of the people than that individual”.

some electorates in the electoral area liken the contest between the four contestants to a bye- election. They claimed that money, clothes, mobile phones and some sewing machines in the electoral were distributed to voters by some of the contenders.

Paul Nyewure, one of the youth leaders of the Gaare-Bong polling station told Word News that the former assembly member Mr. John Millim is aware of the plight of the entire electoral area, but failed to attend to the basic needs of the people.

He accused Mr. John Millum of neglecting his people for the past four years. He said John Millim brought four bundles of wiring cables to the Gaare-Bong community prior to the 2019 district level elections, but took three of the bundled wires away some weeks after the elections.

Paul Nyewure also alleged that the chief of Gbani called on some youth who had expressed interest in the assembly elections in the area to step down and make way for the former assembly member who doubles as the NDC constituency chairman, Secretary to the Gbani chief and a member of the mining committee, but some of the youth rejected his wish. he indicated that the same was done to Ibrahim Awudu, the victor. According to him, Ibrahim Awudu was invited to the Tongraan palace and was asked to step-down for John Millim, but Ibrahim Awudu refused.

Paul also noted that the district chief executive for Talensi, Mr Thomas Doanab Wuni personally pleaded with Ibrahim Awudu to step down for the former assemblyman, John Millim.

The youth also alleged that some of the miners sponsored the John Millim campaign with some huge sum of money. They berated the unseen sponsors for not using same money to fix the bad roads, provide potable drinking water, electricity connectivity as well as solving the furniture deficit in the electoral area .
