Fiber optic cables are the backbone of modern communication networks which carry vast amounts of data over long distances at high speeds.
Whenever fiber optic cables are cut, it could lead to disruptive communication services coupled with fluctuation in data connection.

Speaking to Word News after a media engagement with News Editors in Bolgatanga, Ms Adwoa Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, expressed worry about how fiber cuts posed major challenges to the network.

The challenges she noted among others were due to road construction works across the country.
She said MTN Ghana had sued some road Contractors for destroying the fiber cables but indicated that the Court process was slow.
Ms Wiafe added that mobile money fraud was also one of the major challenges affecting their services and said MTN Ghana was working to check acts of fraudsters.
She advised MTN clients not to share their mobile pin codes with anybody, and urged them to be vigilant about their mobile money transactions.
She said despite the challenges, MTN had invested US$ 1.0 billion in the company between 2020 and 2025 to increase the digital infrastructure base, boost the network system, ensure sustainability and value for money.
“Currently, we have invested 600 million American dollars in our network in Ghana and we are progressing on that,” Ms Wiafe said.
