The 2024 parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the Binduri constituency in the Upper East Region, Issifu Mahmood disclosed that the National Democratic Congress is poised to reclaim the Binduri parliamentary seat from the ruling New Patriot Party come 2024.
The Kumasi based private legal practioner emerged victorious in the Saturday Nationwide parliamentary primaries of the party. He polled 441 votes to beat his only contender, Robert Kuganaab Lem who got 361 votes. He called for unity, saying that unity is the only tool the party need going forward.
He noted that factionalism in a political party is a destructive tool, hence the need to close all gaps of factions. Before he filed to contest, he resigned from the Ghana police service where has was stationed in the Ashanti region. His victory turned the streets of Binduri into a dancing arena. Meanwhile John Mahama got 730 votes, to beat Kojo Bonsu who had 48 votes and Kwabena Duffour’s 48 votes for the presidential primaries.

For Lawyer Mahmoud, every party member will be brought on board.

“in politics , party is about unity so where there is no unity there is no way you will achieve your objectives , so when I came in after the 2020 election, I realized there were factions in the party , I started preaching peace, I worked hard, I started reaching out to all the feuding factions , there was people who were suspended , I did not neglect them , I accorded them so much respect , l listen to people in and outside the constituency, all people who have influence to bring them on a cross board so I did all I can to bring all of them on board “.
