The Assembly Member for the Nindongo Electoral Area in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region, Mr Matthew Akakuzia Abengeyuure, has appealed to the Regional House of Chiefs to elevate the Divisional Chief of Kandiga to Paramount Chief.

He said several efforts by the traditional council to get the area elevated to the status of Paramountcy, was not successful, even though data from the Navrongo Health Research Centre indicated that Kandiga met the population and land coverage requirements.

Mr Abengeyuure, who is the Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee of the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of the Kandiga Naba, Henry Abawine Amenga-Etego II, said the population of Kandiga was about 18,531 with 8 electoral areas which extended into the Kassena Nankana West District and 2 of the electoral areas also extended into Kassena Nankana municipalities.

“As Chief, he has been on the skin for 50 years today, he has struggled to get the area upgraded to Paramountcy and that has been a headache,” he said.

The Assembly Member made the appeal at the launch of the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration which comes off in November 2023.
