Poverty Pushed Me to Pursue Law-Lawyer Lamtii Apanga.

Many people venture into the legal profession to continue the family trade or because someone of influence attracted them to pursue law in the university but that is not the case with a lawyer from the Nabdam district, Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga.

Mr. Apanga who is celebrating ten years in the legal profession as a lawyer, disclosed that he was pushed by poverty in his family to pursue law.

Mr. Lamtiig said he grew up as the son of a “watchman” who worked at the then Ghana Water and Sewage Corporation and saw the hustle that he went through to give him and his siblings through education.

” I am the son of a watchman and he worked for the then Ghana Water and Sewage Corporation in Accra and I saw the hustle that the old man went through. And he told us several times that the only thing that he can give us is education, he may not be able to build houses for us but he can see the people in the offices that he goes to that what puts them there is education. So we have to get out of poverty through education”

Mr. Lamtiig told host of the Word Community Watch Show on Word FM in Zuarungu, Mr. Simon Agana Blessing, that his decision to pursue law was to solve family problems, personal problems and move the family out of poverty.

” When I say I got into the legal profession because of poverty, I mean it. It is to solve family problems, personal problems and move the family out of poverty. Obviously there could be other professions that would also take you out of poverty but law appeared the best for me.”

The Nabdam young lawyer told the host that he initially pursued marketing at the Takoradi Polytechnic and obtained an HND degree before gaining admission to pursue law at the University of Ghana to begin his dream of becoming a lawyer.

” I started off as a business student at St. Aquinas SSS. When I finished, i could not go to the University, I went to the Takoradi Polytechnic and I pursued marketing. I started working but then I noticed at some point that I needed something more that will propel me to a different level. I went to Legon to do a four year degree program before going on to do my LLB. So my journey has been a long journey but its rewarding.”

Mr. Lamtii Apanga also disclosed that he hanours intentions to contest the National Democratic Congress upcoming primaries in the Nabdam Constituency to represent the party in the 2024 Parliamentary elections.
