The Tindana of Baare, a suburb of Tongo in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region, Tindan Dazeog Kukahadelebire is pleading with authorities to speed-up work on a major bridge that links his community to the regional capital, Bolgatanga.
Authorities, including the Talensi district chief; Thomas Doanab Wuni, Dr Nadia Adongo Musah, a deputy director In-charge of Diaspora Affairs at the office of the President as well as some executives of the ruling party during a working visit informed the traditional ruler at his palace that work will soon commence on the bridge of the Baare river linking Gambigo to the Bolgatanga township.
An excited Tindan Kukahadlebire upon receiving the news of the commencement of the project, requested with broad smile that he will wish to see the project completed and put to use to enable him have a sound and smooth journey to the land of his ancestors. He recounted the ordeal his people usually go through during the rainy season as a result of the absent of the bridge.
He pledged to offer within his ability any assistance towards the completion of the project.
Speaking to the press during her tour of the project site, Dr. Nadia noted that the people of Baare has suffered for far too long, especially during the rainy season where the people have to prolong a 20 minutes journey to over an hour as they are compelled to trek through Winkogo- Zuarungu to Gambigo.
“it was something that concerns me because at midnight when it rains, you will hear women trying to go home, they will get here and they cannot cross, and they will come and stay in my family house till the next day. When my dad or someone will have to help them slowly to swim themselves out with their children to the nearby community. So, when we came to government, I took it very personal and I said at least it is something that can be done, so the roads minister heard of the plea and decided that we should do a feasibility study through the feeder roads of the Upper East region and we were able to get it done”.
A reverent minister and resident of the area, Patrick Boazee told word news that people of the area are into vegetable production and that the current situation of the bridge is fettering production.
“This road links Baare to Gambigo through to Bolga, we have so many irrigational facilities across this area where we produce a lot of farm produce including vegetables, but how to get them to the market is a problem. Our women have to struggle. sometimes if they come and the water levels is high, they have to wait or go back and some of these products are very perishable, aside that, there is a community day Senior High School in Gambigo that the President in his wisdom planted in Gambigo which is just a walking distance from Baare, but can you imagine what will happen during the rainy reason if children from this area have to crossover to school?.
He continued “All these are things that we are looking at, and the government through what we are seeing already is impressive, but am waiting for the day where we will come and will not have problems to crossover to the community Senior High School, where we will not have problems having to take pregnant women or critically ill patients from the health centre to the regional hospital, where our women can just get a tricycle to carry their farm produce to the Bolga market for sale. all these things are what we are looking for”. The Talensi District Chief Executive expressed worry that the New Patriotic Party has been marginalised relative to votes in the Upper East Region. He noted that the people of the region don’t reward his party. He added that his party stands tall in terms of development in the Region.
