Binduri: MP Fulfils Campaign Promise, Cuts Sod for the Construction of Astro Turf.

Hon. Abdulai Abanga

The Member of Parliament for the Binduri Constituency who doubles as Deputy Minister of Housing has cut sod for the construction of an Artificial football pitch in the Binduri Community Senior High School park in the Binduri district of the Upper East Region.

The Construction of the sports facility is sponsored by the Ghana Gas company at an undisclosed amount and is expected to be completed within 4 to 6 months.

Speaking at a short sod cutting ceremony at the Binduri Community SHS park, the Binduri District Chief Executive, Hon. Ayinga Abagre said the construction of the Astro Turf is indicative that the people made a good choice at the polls in 2020 because previous MPs never brought any development to the district.

“This project coming to Binduri is good. It means that we voted well. We have previously voted for others and not seen anything”

He added that the facility when completed, would put the school in a better position to host the inter districts sports competitions .

The Member of Parliament who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Housing, Hon. Abdulai Abanga ,said he promised the people of Binduri during his campaign to construct a befitting football facility for his constituents because he observed that there was not a single befitting sports facility in the constituency. A promise he is fulfilling with the commencement of the construction of the Astro Turf.

Enumerating the potential benefits of the facility, Hon Abanga said “the facility will directly address the sports needs of my beloved Binduri Constituency and it will help to unearth sports talents in the constituency. This facility will also afford the youth a recreational centre which will help to reduce the youth engaging in social vices with it’s attendant consequences.”

The Hon. Deputy minister said the Astro Turf “will also help soccer teams in the district to qualify for the second division and the 1st division and even ultimately ,the Ghana premier league.”

He also promised to construct a community centre which would serve as an entertainment centre for the youth instead of them going to “jams” venues which is usually dusty and serves as a fertile ground for engaging in various social vices.

Mr. Nana Antwi of Best Construction Ltd, the constructors of the facility, assured the chiefs and people of the area that the facility would be completed within schedule because it has been assured of the availability of funds for the project by Ghana Gas Company .

The Astro Turf comes with a 11 aside standard football pitch with an inner perimeter fencing and flood lights. It however does not include spectator stands, dressing rooms and coach and substitute stands.

It is been constructed by Best Construction Company Ltd with funding from Ghana Gas Company  Ltd.
