Bawku: Residents raise eyebrows as security accused of bias

Some residents of Bawku are unhappy over what they described as selective and bias arrest of persons they believe are innocent, while the real causers of the renewed conflict are left off the hook.

A team of law enforcers from Accra are said to have arrived in Bawku over the weekend under the headship of one Adamu Seidu to effect some arrest, but some residents complained that the team is not going after the main causers of the conflict.

A man who spoke to Word news in a state of anonymity alleged that there were a lot of social media handles which were issuing treads   ” everyone knows that this conflict started via social media. Why are the operators of ” Bawku links”, “Moshie Naaba” not arrested?  Those who threatened Bawku Naba, Mahama Ayariga and the regional minister not arrested? They should stop chasing people who has no hands in the conflict and go after these war mongers”. He added that  those guys on social media even threatened the president of the republic and are still walking freely.

Supt Adamu Seidu in an interview directs word news to speak with the regional crime unit relative to the said operations. Adamu Seidu is said to have worked in Bawku some years back.

Meanwhile, the regional police command has confirmed the arrest of three persons. Public relations officer, ASP David Okyere told the media that all three will soon be put before court as he called for calm.

Bawku is in the news lately for bad reasons. There is a lingering accusations from both feuding faction; Kussasis and Mamprusis over who did what in matters of the ongoing skirmishes.

The cracks of mistrust is deepening by the day.

The renewed conflict is said have been triggered as the Mamprusi divide attempted to perform the final funeral rites of one Alhaji Adam Zamgbeo who died some 41 years ago.

The state through the Ghana police service secured a court restrictions order to stop the performance of the funeral, but that was allegedly defied. 12 persons were subsequently arrested and airlifted to Accra. They are to reappear in court on February 12.

President Akuffo recently appealed to the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II to do what he can to bring peace and harmony in the area. He was unhappy the resources that could have been used to develop the area is rather been used in keeping military personnel in the town.
