Election 2020: NPP Calls On The Media To Be Steadfast Independent Arbiters

The New Patriotic Party has appealed to the media in Ghana to be steadfast independent arbiters in the 2020 general elections.

Addressing the media in Accra by the NPP National Communication officer, Mr. Boabeng Asamoah said it is the expectation of the party that the media remain steadfast independent arbiters in helping to redirect the debate to sifting the main grain from the chaff .

“As the media, we expect that you remain steadfast independent arbiters in helping to redirect the debate to sifting the grain from the chaff and weighing the grain in the white light of fair inquiry. We hope that in this fast evolving media environment of competing claims, you use the versatile tools at your disposal to throw even more light on the real issues of poverty eradication and jerky growth hindering our forward march.”

Mr. Boabeng Asamoah said the role of the media as gate keepers has become even more important as Covid-19 locks society down with the new normal. He said the media has become the eyes and ears of the people.

“So today, we ask of you. Please use your tools to better help governance partners to focus and debate the kind of leadership Ghana needs. Politicians, thought leaders, civil society influencers, voters, captains of industry and investment, international partners and competing fellow nations are all governance partners.”

The NPP used the press conference to highlight what it calls, the failures of John Dramani Mahama and called on Ghanaians to reject his bid to become president again.
