Pray For Me And John Mahama— Prof. Naana Apeals to Bawku Naba

The running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has asked for prayers from the Paramount Chief of Bawku for herself and the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Ghana prepares for the 2020 general elections.

The Vice-presidential candidate made this request when she paid a courtesy call on the paramount chief, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, at his palace in Bawku as part of her two-day visit to the Upper East Region.

She was accompanied by a former Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the NDC’s Deputy Campaign Manager and former Minister for Health, Alex Segbefia, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka, the party’s National Women Organiser, Maame Afua, and the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, among other personalities.

“We are also asking for prayers. When you go down on your knees to pray, remember our flagbearer, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. He has made a decision that has brought us here. I don’t want to forget about that. So, please, pray for him and pray for me also, being the first to occupy such a position by a major party, that God Himself should give me wisdom, direction and the discretion. So we must pray,” said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang.

She said despite the fact that people might have heard about her nomination, it was still necessary for her to pay a courtesy call on the traditional authorities and the people of Bawku to introduce herself to them.

Welcoming the vice-presidential candidate to the palace, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II made a passionate appeal to her be a promoter peace in her campaign as the 2020 presidential and parliamentary election drew nearer. The paramount chief said God already knew who would lead the country after the upcoming elections as the choice of who became a leader lay in God’s hands.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman expressed her gratitude to the paramount chief for his call for a peaceful campaign and for his caution against use of unprintable words before and after the 2020 polls.
