
The Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, has ordered the closure of seven courts in the Upper East Region following requests from lawyers and other stakeholders concerning the current situation in Bawku and its environs, which has resulted in the tragic loss of 16 lives.
The affected courts include the Bolgatanga High Court, Bolgatanga Circuit Court, Bolgatanga District Circuit Court, Zuarungu Circuit Court, Garu Circuit Court, Bongo Circuit Court, and Zebilla Circuit Court. This decision has been made to ensure the safety and security of judges, staff, lawyers, and court users, with immediate effect until further notice.

In the directive signed by Justice Eyra Pamela C.A. Kuranteng, the Judiciary Secretary, all registrars of the affected courts have been instructed to keep all court assets in proper custody. Additionally, all staff members are advised to prioritize their safety during this period.
