Badiburu Keziah Wemoyei, a 17-year-old student and second-year General Science student of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIGBOSS) in the Upper East Region of Ghana, has been elected as the first-ever female head Prefect since the school was established on 15th October 1970.Keziah contested for the position against boys, who have held the Senior Head Prefect role for more than 56 years.
Speaking to the media, Badiburu Keziah explained that her vision is both simple and profound: to foster a fully disciplined environment where discipline is embraced, excellence is pursued, talents are nurtured, and every student feels empowered.
She noted that discipline should become part of the school’s common identity. She added that, with a sense of economics, responsible leadership, and unity in ethics, she envisions a school where students are empowered to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the institution.
She also stressed that students should not only focus on academics, but should take ownership of their responsibilities by promoting values such as hard work, respect, accountability, and integrity, which she believes should form the foundation of the school’s collective identity.
Badiburu Keziah said, Leadership to her is not a throne where one sits. It is not about authority. It is about responsibility. It is not about being served, but about serving. She expressed her commitment before God and the entire school community that she will live with integrity, remain courageous when challenges arise, and stay humble when success comes supported by dedication.
She further noted that, as the first female Head Prefect since the school’s establishment in 1970, she did not seek to prove that women are better than men. Instead, she said she wanted to show that when opportunities are given based on merit, institutions flourish and greatness is achieved.
In a show of recognition, Mr. Anthony Adimazoya, the Headmaster of Bolgatanga Senior High School, congratulated her and awarded her two thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵2,000). He also indicated that the amount will be given to any female student who wins the Head Prefect position in future.
Badiburu Keziah pledged to be a beacon of hope, to serve with a spirit beyond mediocrity, and to focus on meaningful results rather than merely fun fair She said she is ready to serve and ready to listen.
She also appealed to all students, reminding them that history does not remember those who merely qualify for positions but those who transform them. She urged students to rise above complacency and choose excellence over mediocrity, service over selfishness, and unity over division.
She said that in years to come, when the story of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIGBOSS) is told, may it be said that this generation refused to settle for the ordinary, dared to grow bigger, and dared to make a difference. She added that she will not use her position with pride, but with dedication to her school.
