Bolgatanga East: stalled rural electrification; MP to the rescue

The Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has supported two communities; Zuarungu Moshie 6 relative to a stalled state sponsored rural electrification project.

The communities received 200 8mm electric polls. The polls are to resurrect the stalled electrification project.

Speaking to press men, the Member of Parliament noted that the cost of the two hundred electric 8mm stood at one hundred and fifty-six thousand Ghana cedis. Of which he said ninety six thousand Ghana cedis is from his own initiative while sixty thousand came from the MP social intervention fund.

He disclosed that 160 of the 8mm electric poles will be given to Zuarungu Moshie communities including – Dubila and Zimaasa, while 40 of the 8mm poles will be sent to Gambigo to complete the stalled rural electrification project in the area.
“We are here this afternoon because I have to solve the issue of electrification in some of my electoral areas ,we are here in Zuarungu Moshie, this electoral area also included Dubila and so we here to handover 160 8mm poles for the continuation of the rural electrification of the area ,so what you seeing behind me is 200 8mm poles that I bought for both ,this electoral area and Gambigo at a cost one fifty six thousand Ghana cedis, ninety six thousand came from my own funds and sixty thousands came the social intervention fund from the parliament of Ghana”.

Hon Domini Akuritinga Ayine attributed the delay in the completion of the rural electrification project in the two electoral areas to the ministry of energy not willing to release electrical materials to enable the contractor to complete the project on time.

The youth of the Zuarungu Moshie electoral area has vowed not to vote in the upcoming general elections if their electoral area is not connected to the national grid.

Speaking to Word news after receiving the 160 8mm electric poles, Mr Thomas Aarega, one of the executive members of the ‘no lights, no vote’ group thanked the Member of Parliament for the support and indicated that the group’s demand for electricity will not subside until the entire affected communities in the electoral area namely, Zuarungu Moshie, Dubila and Zimaasa are connected to the national grid .

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament has promised that the contractor will start installing the electric poles by Monday, the 5th of August 2024.
