The Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area in the Kassena Nankana Municipality, in the Upper East Region of Ghana, was traditionally fortified and crowned on Monday, 1st June, 2026.

This event crowned Naba Tandegrewongrekugre V, the Paramount Chief of Kologo, nine years after his election and installation as chief of the Kologo Traditional Area.
Naba Tandegrewongrekugre V was selected as Chief of Kologo by the clan heads, including,Tangabia Awika Anyani, Digonga Apaahor, Awiahbia Akansige Akanseke, Winga Akansige John, Asanabia Awine Robert, Nyobia Akancaah.
He explained that before he would complete the traditional process typically between 3 months and 3 years the chief would undergo certain traditional procedures. During this period, the same clan heads would fortify and coronate the selected chief traditionally into his skin.

Naba Tandegrewongrekugre V noted that the process was delayed due to unnecessary family constraints and agitations, which postponed his traditional fortification and coronation. The Chief expressed gratitude to the clan heads and leaders who made the fortification and coronation successful.

He said the ceremony has empowered him, crowning him with the traditional red hat, and he was also made to sit on the chief’s traditional stone.
Call for Timely Succession and Funeral Planning
Naba Tandegrewongrekugre V lamented the long delay, saying it took him over nine years to complete the traditional coronation and fortification.
He appealed to the people of Kologo that when he eventually passes on, they should not delay his funeral. He emphasized that the funeral should be performed within the 3-year period to ensure that the next chief is installed on time, with the traditional coronation and fortification done promptly so that the next chief will not face the same struggle he endured.

Advisory on Future Candidates
He further appealed to the clans to note that the next person qualified to contest for the Kologo skin should be a child who calls him father or uncle and not his senior or junior brothers.
This, he said, is to avoid the type of situation that occurred since 2018, when he was installed as Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area.
